TOUR DE FRANCE: UNCHAINED
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
The boys are riding over those pesky gravel roads on the Tour de France, but you can watch this documentary from the comfort of your lounge, snacking on petit fours and sipping pastis. This is an excellent insight into what goes on in this taxing bike race as we follow eight teams taking part in the challenging Tour de France. There are two seasons for those who love the Tour… and the scenery and the food.

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
A child going missing would have to be one of the most disturbing and heartbreaking experiences for anyone to endure. In this traumatic drama Benedict Cumberbatch stars as grief-stricken father Vincent whose son, Edgar, goes missing in 1980s Manhattan. Vincent finds solace through his friendship with Eric, the monster that lives under Edgar’s bed. In his quest to find the truth to Edgar’s disappearance, Vincent is forced into the dark shadows of a city rife with corruption. Detective Ledroit, tasked to uncover internal corruption in the NYPD, finds himself drawn into the search for Edgar, while privately coming to terms with secrets of his own. This is a good story, but my problem was that I didn’t like any of the main characters, except Edgar.

SUPACELL
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
This gripping drama had my attention immediately. On first noticing that it was of the superhero genre, my reaction was that I’m over people getting special powers and saving the world, but I persevered. Created and directed by rapper and record producer Rapman, the story follows a group of ordinary people from South London who unexpectedly develop superpowers with no clear connection between them other than them all being Black. As they deal with the impact on their daily lives, Michael is the man who has to bring them together to protect the one he loves, while avoiding the powerful and nefarious agents that have noticed their special abilities. Interesting viewing with a superb ensemble cast and an excellent soundtrack.

UNAUTHORISED LIVING
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
An excellent drama series from Spain, which follows Nemo Bandeira, a dealer with a clean businessman facade, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and tries to keep it from his family while he starts to think about who his successor might be. The story has all the usual elements of violence, corruption, deceit and sex. There’s a lot of it out there, going by the Netflix schedule. There are two seasons.

GANGS OF GALICIA
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
Although there are a few plot anomalies with this Spanish crime drama, it is still solid viewing. The story follows Ana, a new lawyer who arrives to settle in the small town of Cambados. Her presence does not go unnoticed by anyone, including Daniel, the son of an important drug trafficker and visible head of the “Clan de los Padín”. Ana, with extensive experience in one of the best law firms in Madrid, has decided to start from scratch in Cambados with the intention of settling accounts with her past.

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
There are now three seasons of this excellent futuristic drama, with Season 3 being the finale. Christian Convery gives a wonderful performance as Gus, a boy who is half human and half deer surviving in a post-apocalyptic world with other hybrids. In this third season, as Birdie tries to uncover the mysterious origins of the deadly Sick, Dr. Singh joins Gus, Jepperd, and company on their trek to Alaska, but he might hold his own dangerous beliefs about Gus and his role in reversing the virus. With the clock to find answers running out, alliances are tested, and destinies intertwine, all leading to a thrilling climax that’ll determine the fate of humanity and hybrids.

THE GIFT
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
If you have the notion that you’d enjoy wandering around archaeological sites, you may like this drama fantasy where we follow Atiye, who leads a simple and happy life in Istanbul until her life changes with a discovery made in Göbeklitepe, the world’s oldest temple. The archaeologist Erhan, who carries out excavations in the region, discovers a symbol that reveals the mystical relationship between Atiye and Göbeklitepe. As this mystery is revealed, Atiye will question everything between the past and the future, between the true and the spiritual. An interesting story set in a stunning location.

ANTHRACITE
WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
The scenery in this crime drama from France is spectacular! And no wonder, as the location is the Swiss Alps. The story begins in 1994 with the collective suicide of a sect based in a small village in the Alps. 30 years later, a woman is murdered according to the rituals of the strange community. Jaro Gatsi, a young delinquent who came to the mountains to get his life back on track, quickly finds himself accused of the murder. Determined to prove his innocence, he receives unexpected help from Ida, an eccentric and ultra-connected geek who is looking for her missing father – and who may test the patience, but she grows on you. They will soon realise that the answers they seek are rooted in the secrets of their own past.

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?
Finishing up the list with this comedy, which is funny and enjoyable most of the time. Will inherits his father’s chain of auto repair garages but is totally unqualified for the job. He attempts to turn his business around while enduring torment from his obnoxious now-employee cousin, Shane, who undermines Will at every opportunity. I would have fired Shane, but I guess you can’t when he’s related. The series was created by Shane Gillis, Steve Gerben, and John McKeever. Gerben and Gillis also feature in the lead roles.
