UNSOLVED MYSTERIES

WATCH NOW

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?

Unsolved Mysteries Season 4 is up with new episodes based on the experiences of ordinary people who have lived the unthinkable from the trauma of a loved one’s unexplained disappearance or horrific death to the shock of a bizarre paranormal encounter. Alongside detectives and journalists, family members offer clues, present theories, and identify suspects, hoping one viewer holds the key to solving the mystery. I was engrossed in the investigations up until Episode 5. It depends on one’s alleged personal experiences, I guess.

THE INNOCENCE FILES

WATCH NOW

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?

In this investigative series we follow cases of wrongful conviction that the Innocence Project and organisations within the Innocence Network have worked to highlight and overturn. Frightening that you can go to prison on circumstantial evidence and languish there for years. Disturbing viewing where justice doesn’t always prevail.

THE DECAMERON

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?

This is a lot of fun. It’s a crazy take on a historical drama. In 1348, as the Black Death strikes hard in the city of Florence. A handful of nobles are invited to retreat with their servants to a grand villa in the Italian countryside and wait out the pestilence with a lavish holiday. But as social rules wear thin, what starts as a wine-soaked sex romp in the hills of Tuscany descends into an all-out scramble for survival. Highly entertaining with a wonderful ensemble cast attached.

DIRTY POP: THE BOY BAND SCAM

WATCH NOW

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?

I did miss the boy band phenomenon, but I did have a daughter so did have some knowledge. However, the revelations here are all new to me so it was interesting viewing. Lou Pearlman – the music mogul who created and exploited some of the biggest boy bands of the ’90s including Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and O-Town – rises and falls. This is amazing stuff of how Pearlman duped so many people and got away with it for so long.

SIMONE BILES RISING

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?

Simone Biles has unfinished business. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she was one of the biggest stories leading into the Games. But in sport, as in life, competitions do not always go as planned. And for Simone, the world had a front row seat as her private struggle with mental health exploded on the international stage forcing her to withdraw from the competition. Since then, Simone has put in the hard work: facing the difficult traumas in her past, learning to manage her mental health, embracing her journey, and in the process, rebuilding her gymnastics from the ground up. An uplifting story of dedication and fortitude.

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?

This is so funny, and Jeff Goldblum as Zeus is a classic, with David Thewlis and Janet McTeer also joining him. You may need to be up on your Greek Gods, but I don’t think that will detract from this hilarious, darkly comedic and contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld. Zeus has a wrinkle. He’s worried it might mean the end of the world and it might. Because on earth, six humans unaware of their importance or their connection to each other learn that they are component parts of an ancient prophecy. Will they discover the truth about the gods, and what they’re doing to humans? And, if they do, will they be able to stop them? All will be revealed. Great viewing.

WYATT EARP AND THE COWBOY WAR

WATCH NOW

WHY SHOULD YOU WATCH?

I’ve always been partial to a cowboy story ever since I used to go the Saturday matinee and watch the decorated Audie Murphy who was in just about every film of that genre. Narrated by Ed Harris, this docudrama explore the legendary feud between Wyatt Earp and Ike Clanton unfolding through vivid reenactments about the gunfight that defined an era – the gunfight at the OK Corral, of course. Excellent viewing if you’re into everything Wild West.
