This excellent drama series is adapted from a novel by Holly Ringland. The story is inspired by Ringland’s real experiences of domestic abuse. When Alice, aged 9, tragically loses her parents in a mysterious fire, she is taken to live with her grandmother June at Thornfield flower farm, where she learns that there are secrets within secrets about her and her family’s past. Set against Australia’s breath-taking, natural landscape, and with native wildflowers and plants providing a way to express the inexpressible, this enthralling family drama spans decades. The way in which the elements of nature are threaded throughout adds poignancy to this story.

In a few criticisms of this series mention has been made of it having a “woke” agenda. If you set out to look for this instead of actually watching the drama unfold, you’ll probably find it. I found a series which seemed predictable at first, but ending up veering into a scenario I had not envisaged. It’s not brilliant, but there are much worse series out there. British couple Liv and Will seem to have it all: a rock-solid marriage and a glamorous new life in New York. Until Liv learns about Will’s affair. He suggests a trip to a national park to prepare the damage to their relationship, but neither of them imagined the dire circumstances that would unfold.

This legal drama from India was quite interesting just for the opportunity to see how trials unfold and cases are conducted. The story revolves around Kashaf Quaze, Deepak Rana and Vandana Kathpalia, three law school friends who are often put opposite each other in the court of law. It is also about one family that is the paragon of virtue and the other, a leading law firm dealing with all shades of grey. As it’s set in India, this gives an aspect which adds to its being entertaining viewing.

Yet another Harlen Coben novel adapted for a TV series, by his daughter Charlotte Coben. There is a lot going on in the many plot points, which are compelling, but at times a tad drawn out. Perhaps six episodes would have been sufficient. It is the story of high school junior Mickey Bolitar as he navigates his new life with a mom in rehab, a dead father, an annoying aunt and a new school in New Jersey. When a creepy old lady who may or may not be a ghost tells Mickey that his father isn’t dead, Mickey is sure he’s losing his mind on top of everything. He teams up with two other misfits at school to solve the mystery. Entertaining drama with a sprinkle of teenage angst thrown in.

What a talented cast is attached to this supernatural drama series, led by Iain Glen. I was sceptical about the action taking place solely on an oil rig, but it held my attention once the story unfolded. It is set on the Kinloch Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish coast in the dangerous waters of the North Sea where a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through and the crew find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world. As the rig is hit by massive tremors, it’s up to them to discover what’s driving the unknown force. It became quite bizarre towards the finale, but the cast made it worth watching. I did realise that life on an oil rig is definitely not for the faint-hearted!

It’s been a while since I’ve hung out with Harry. He’s still as cool as ever in this series. Harry is now making a living as a private investigator two years after he quit the LAPD and finds himself working with one time enemy and top-notch attorney Honey “Money” Chandler as she endeavours to ascertain who attempted to have her killed. Meanwhile, Bosch’s daughter Maddie is venturing into the world of the LAPD and is fast finding out that having Bosch as her father does not go down well with her colleagues. This is excellent viewing and it’s so compelling I watched it all at once.

Although this crime series is set in Paris, Jean Reno appears to be the only French actor in the cast. He is definitely the reason to watch this one. Reno stars as a police commander Jo St-Clair, tracking down psychopathic killers, who appear to be in abundance here. And they do their dastardly deeds in such iconic locations! He gets assistance from an unorthodox nun who works in the city’s most troubled areas. Whilst attempting to solve the most mysterious crimes plaguing his famous city, Jo also struggles with reconnecting with his estranged daughter. It’s not a perfect production by any means, but it’s a great excuse to hang out in Paris with Jean Reno.

Woody Allen wrote and directed six episodes, marking the first time he has done so for television. He is said to have called it a “cosmic embarrassment”. I’ll agree with Woody that it is not perfect, but I still found myself highly amused at some of the scenes, especially where it involved the radicalisation of the ladies in his wife’s reading group. The story takes place in the 1960’s during turbulent times in the US with the Vietnam War raging and the rise of the Black Panther movement. When writer S.J. Munsinger and his wife are visited by the radical Lennie Dale, who is on the run, their middle-class suburban family life is completely turned upside down. With this one, I think it’s a matter of personal taste. I’ve always loved Woody’s witty asides and banter and there is a lot of it going on here.

I am quite surprised at how gullible people are at times and how they are easily taken in by a person who they know nothing about. This story follows the maverick British reporter Mazher Mahmood, whose exposés generated headlines by his use of false identities to ensnare royals, sports stars, politicians, celebrities and members of the public. Mahmood insists that his motive is to ensnare those who are deceitful, when he is behaving in that same way. What is even more surprising is that he coerces others to assist him in completely destroying people’s lives by fabricating false accusations to get a story.

I’m not one for reality TV shows, but I found this intriguing viewing. Again, I am a little puzzled as to why you would give up everything to take part without first having researched the background of who was producing the show. However, 6 young people attempting to find fame and fortune left jobs, homes and partners in June 2002 to start their adventure. But the show didn’t exist. Twenty years after their dreams were shattered, the people caught up in this miss-adventure are still searching for answers.
