Season 4 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Crusade

Over a dozen years ago, a meteor shower burst from the heavens, raining destruction on the unsuspecting citizens of Smallville, Kansas. The intervening years have left the town's inhabitants with scars and secrets. From the ashes of tragedy, Clark Kent has grown into a teen. The guardians of Clark's secret identity have always been his adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. The knowledge that his life is out of control has recently forced Clark to keep Lana Lang, the girl he loves, at arm's length. Over the years, Clark has forged a remarkable relationship with Lex Luthor, although neither has an inkling of how their destinies will ultimately collide. Clark returns from a bizarre phantom zone to Smallville, possessed by his Kryptonian alter ego, Kal-El. Intent on fulfilling his destiny, Kal-El takes to the skies to steal a powerful Kryptonite crystal.

Episode 2 - Gone

Clark and Lois (recurring guest star Erica Durance) investigate Chloe's apparent murder, but Lois' father, General Sam Lane (recurring guest star Michael Ironside - "The Perfect Storm"), impedes their progress. Lois suspects that her dad knows more about Chloe's death than he will admit, and Clark discovers that Sam has recently been in contact with Lex. Jason arrives from Paris and convinces Lana to continue their relationship. Suspecting that Chloe is still alive, Lionel sends an assassin--with the ability to morph his limbs into metallic weapons--to keep Chloe from testifying against him.

Episode 3 - Façade

Clark encounters a surprising new foe when Abigail Fine (Brianna Lynn Brown), a shy high school girl, undergoes plastic surgery to enhance her looks and boost her popularity. But she discovers that her kryptonite-enhanced beauty causes harm to anyone she kisses--and Abigail decides her next victim will be Lana. Meanwhile, Jason and Lana continue to hide their relationship from Clark.

Episode 4 - Devoted

Clark joins the football team at school and immediately gets promoted to starting quarterback after the former quarterback fights with Jason, the team's new assistant coach. Curious about the behavior change in his teammate, Clark and Lois (recurring guest star Erica Durance) investigate and discover that the cheerleaders are poisoning the team's water with Kryptonite, turning the players into perfect boyfriends.

Episode 5 - Run

After Jonathan's wallet is stolen, Clark uses his super speed to chase after the thief, Bart, aka The Flash (Kyle Gallner), but is stunned when he cannot catch him. Bart visits the farm and tries to persuade Clark to leave Smallville for a life on the road together, flexing their superpowers. Meanwhile, Lex buys a priceless framed manuscript with Kryptonian symbols, and Clark learns that it contains a mysterious hidden map. However, when Bart steals the manuscript from Lex, he inadvertently puts Clark's life in danger and must make a decision to save Clark or himself.

Episode 6 - Transference

Clark hears a painful ringing sound and is compelled to go to the penitentiary that houses Lionel. When he sees Lionel attempt to stab Lex with a strange glowing stone, Clark grabs for the rock causing Lionel and Clark to switch bodies. After learning his new body has superpowers, Lionel immediately begins wreaking havoc on Smallville. Trapped in prison without his powers, Clark must find a way to get his body and powers back in order to save his friends and family.

Episode 7 - Jinx

Chloe becomes entangled in an underground gambling ring at school run by foreign exchange student Mikail Mxyzptlk (Trent Ford - "The West Wing") who uses his powers to control all of the football players--including Clark--during a game. When Chloe discovers Mxyzptlk's secret, he kidnaps her and threatens to kill her unless Clark purposely makes his team lose the championship game. Meanwhile, Lex threatens Mxyzptlk with deportation unless he uses his powers for Lex's benefit.

Episode 8 - Spell

After Lana reads from a book written in the 1600s containing magical spells, she, Lois (recurring guest star Erica Durance) and Chloe become possessed by witches who had been burned at the stake. The three witches have returned to seek revenge, and they search for the powerful Kryptonian crystals, wreaking havoc on the town. Clark attempts to stop the witches, but they strip him of his powers and force him to reveal the location of the crystal he hid in the cave.

Episode 9 - Bound

After Lex is accused of killing a young woman, Clark sets out to prove his innocence and asks an unlikely source for help--Lionel. Swearing he is a changed man, Lionel offers Clark insight into the crime, but he asks for something in return. Meanwhile, Lana meets Jason's parents and has a vivid flashback of the incident in Paris when she got her tattoo. Lana suspects that Jason's mother, Genevieve (recurring guest star Jane Seymour - "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman," "Somewhere in Time"), was present when Lana got tattooed.

Episode 10 - Scare

A secret experiment that Lex is conducting at LuthorCorp goes terribly awry and causes the release of a dangerous toxin into the air. Smallville residents infected by the toxin--including Clark, Lana, Lex and Jason--imagine their greatest fears coming true and lapse into a coma. Desperate to find a cure, Clark gives some of his blood to Lex and is stunned at what his friend does with the antidote.

Episode 11 - Unsafe

Claiming to be cured, Alicia (recurring guest star Sarah Carter - "Final Destination 2") is released from Belle Reve psychiatric hospital and arrives in Smallville to rekindle her relationship with Clark. Initially skeptical of Alicia, Clark eventually enjoys having a relationship with someone who knows his secret, but when she wants more, he hesitates--causing Alicia to use red Kryptonite on him. "Bad Clark" emerges and whisks Alicia off to get married in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Lana decides to have sex with Jason in order to win him back.

Episode 12 - Pariah

Lana and Jason are attacked and almost killed by an unseen assailant, and recent psychiatric patient Alicia (recurring guest star Sarah Carter) seems to be the prime suspect. Clark initially defends his new girlfriend, but when the evidence begins to pile up, he is forced to take a hard, truthful look at Alicia. Hurt by Clark's actions, Alicia forces Clark to unknowingly reveal his powers in front of Chloe. Meanwhile, Jason's mother, Genevieve (recurring guest star Jane Seymour), returns to town with an offer for Lex.

Episode 13 - Recruit

In an effort to recruit Clark for the university's football team, Metropolis University sends its star player, Geoff Johns (Chris Carmack - "The O.C."), to show Clark the advantages of attending Met U. However, after one of Met U's players dies under mysterious circumstances, and Lois (recurring guest star Erica Durance) is arrested for his murder, Clark discovers that Geoff has superpowers and is using them to paralyze anyone who gets in his way--including Lois. Meanwhile, Chloe continues to observe Clark to learn more about his secret.

Episode 14 - Krypto

After Lois (recurring guest star Erica Durance) accidentally hits a dog with her car, she brings it to the farm to heal. Clark realizes the dog possesses superpowers when the canine lifts up a car to retrieve a ball. Clark and Lois discover that the dog is the result of an aborted LuthorCorp experiment and is being used to help commit crimes. But when Lois gets kidnapped by robbers and Clark becomes weakened by Kryptonite, only the dog can save them. Meanwhile, Lana questions Jason's involvement in the schemes of his mother, Genevieve (recurring guest star Jane Seymour).

Episode 15 - Sacred

After learning that Jason and Lex are in China searching for one of the mysterious crystals, Clark and Lana follow in the hopes of finding one first. Clark discovers an artifact that leads them to the crystal, but he must battle Isobel, the witch, who has once again inhabited Lana's body in order to take the crystal for herself. Meanwhile, Lex knows more about the crystals than he admits.

Episode 16 - Lucy

Lois' (recurring guest star Erica Durance) younger sister, Lucy (Peyton List), with whom Lois doesn't get along, visits Smallville and charms everyone she meets. However, Clark discovers a darker side to Lucy after he catches her stealing money from a bar. Clark forces Lucy to reveal the truth about her sudden appearance in town--a truth that puts Lois in grave danger. Meanwhile, the crystal disappears from Lana's apartment, and Jason accuses Lionel of stealing it.

Episode 17 - Onyx

A glimpse of the future Lex Luthor is revealed after a Kryptonite explosion splits Lex in two, and his evil side--Alexander--is released. Alexander immediately imprisons Lex in the mansion and begins his rampage by attempting to kill Clark and Chloe in the lab, jousting with Lionel and convincing him to return to the dark side and, finally, threatening to close The Talon unless Lana moves in with him.

Episode 18 - Spirit

A stunned Chloe is nominated for prom queen and tries to enlist her reluctant friends Clark and Lana to attend the dance with her. Chloe's rival for queen, Dawn Stiles (Beatrice Rosen), crashes her car into a ravine filled with Kryptonite. Dawn's spirit is released and enters the bodies of the others--making them behave uncharacteristically. As a result, Lana asks Clark to be her prom date, Lois (recurring guest star Erica Durance) attends the prom, and Chloe attempts to set the school on fire. Lex gives the seniors a special gift by getting the band LIFEHOUSE (themselves) to perform at the dance.

Episode 19 - Blank

Kevin Grady (Jonathan Bennett - "Mean Girls," "All My Children") possesses the ability to make people lose their memories. Kevin unleashes his power on Clark, causing him to suffer total amnesia. Chloe discovers Clark's malady and teaches him about his superpowers--while simultaneously trying to keep Clark from accidentally revealing his powers to others. Consequently, Clark meets Lana, becomes enamored of her and decides to share his secret with her. Seizing the perfect opportunity, Lex tries to convince Clark to show him where the three stones are hidden.

Episode 20 - Ageless

Clark and Lana discover an abandoned baby in a cornfield and take him back to the Kent farm. But when the newborn ages to a 7-year-old in a matter of days, Clark and Lana frantically search for a cure before the rapid-aging disease kills him. Meanwhile, Genevieve (recurring guest star Jane Seymour) orders Lionel to kill Lana or Genevieve will send him back to prison.

Episode 21 - Forever

Torch photographer Brendan Nash (Steven Grayhm) sets up a secret, simulated high school environment and kidnaps fellow seniors--starting with Chloe--to keep the fun of high school going forever. Meanwhile, Lex and Lionel are abducted and tortured by Jason and Genevieve (recurring guest star Jane Seymour), who demand to know where their missing crystal is. However, after she realizes Lana possesses the element, Genevieve decides to permanently end her battle with Lana.

Episode 22 - Commencement

Clark discovers the reason he was sent to Earth after a nightmare foretells a horrible event that's about to befall Smallville, and he visits the cave to seek answers from Jor-El. His biological father tells Clark he must reunite the three crystals immediately or an enormous disaster will devastate the planet that even Clark won't be able to stop or survive. Meanwhile, after finding Lana with Genevieve Teague's dead body, Lex helps the teen escape Smallville then takes shocking action to get one of the crystals away from Lionel. Realizing the elements are connected to Clark, Chloe tries to stop Lex from discovering the truth.
