Season 5 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - On With the Dance

Episode one opens in July 1919 with the victory parade. The war is over and Richard and Virginia begin to make plans for their new life. This causes concern amongst the staff who fear for their jobs. Daisy and Edward return to Eaton Place to discover that a lot has changed.
Episode 2 - A Place In the World

James, injured and unable to continue on in the army, goes in search of a worthwhile occupation. He writes a letter which is published in 'The Times'. It concerns employment for injured ex-servicemen and attracts the attention of the Conservative Party. He agrees to stand in a by-election. Edward and Daisy are struggling to make ends meet. Edward argues with Hudson when Hudson discovers their poverty.
Episode 3 - Laugh a Little Louder Please

Georgina wishes to forget the horrors of the war and becomes a frequent member of London's party scene. She obtains James' permission to hold a fancy dress party at Eaton Place. The bacchanalia spirals out of control and ends in tragedy. The children's new Governess arrives in the middle of the revelry.
Episode 4 - The Joy Ride

James takes his attractive young stepmother up in an aeroplane and anxiety grips the entire household when they are reported missing. Richard wonders whether they may have taken off across the English Channel to start a new life together.
Episode 5 - Wanted, a Good Home

Virginia's son William is eight years old and is sent to a boarding school. Rose buys a dog for her daughter Alice to keep her company after William's departure. Alice also gets a new governess who causes trouble in the Bellamy household.
Episode 6 - An Old Flame

James meetshis old flame Lady Newbury in a jazz club. They arrange to meet in the country where they rekindle their romance. However, Lady Newbury is married - to James' best friend.
Episode 7 - Disillusion

Georgina returns from America and sees Hudson in the company of housemaid Lily whilst at an exhibition. Hudson informs Richard and Virginia of his intention to marry Lily and hands in his resignation. Will Hudson be leaving Eaton Place?
Episode 8 - Such a Lovely Man

Richard is eager to be made a minister and he thinks an influential millionaire can help him. Things take a turn for the worse and a situation develops which could threaten his reputation.
Episode 9 - The Nine Day Wonder

The 1926 general strike causes disharmony in the house. Hudson struggles to maintain order among the downstairs staff.
Episode 10 - The Understudy

Georgina plays hostess to the French ambassador in Virginia's absence. Hudson collapses and a doctor is called for. The household begins to buzz with everyone trying to predict whether Edward or Frederick will take his place.
Episode 11 - Alberto

Period drama series. James is shocked by the unsuitable relationship between Frederick and Georgina's friend.
Episode 12 - Will Ye No Come Back Again

Richard Bellamy is lent a fishing lodge in the Highlands. The servants at Eaton Place have to manage in an unusual and romantic atmosphere and James' feelings for Georgina are brought to a head.
Episode 13 - Joke Over

Georgina continues her life as a reckless flapper, accompanying friends on a scavenger hunt and disturbing the servants in the early hours of the morning. When she decides to drunkenly drive Richard's car out into the countryside the results are tragic. The staid Robert Stockdale comes to her aid.
Episode 14 - Noblesse Oblige

Robert Stockbridge and Georgina fall in love. Robert proposes, but his mother puts a condition on the engagement that Robert rails against.
Episode 15 - All the King's Horses

When James returns from America he is driven by extreme enthusiasm and faith in the future. He has become a player in the volatile shares market. However, as a result of his confidence, he makes a disastrous gamble with Rose's life savings.
Episode 16 - Whither Shall I Wander

In the final episode of the last series, 165 Eaton Place is rocked by James' death. He has died heavily in debt and the house must be sold to cover his losses. Each character must embark on a new life as the Bellamy household comes to an end. Rose takes a last tour of the house, remembering all the times they spent in it.
