Episode 1 - On Trial

On a crisp autumn morning in 1903, a young woman seeks employment in a fashionable London townhouse.

Episode 2 - The Mistress and the Maids

It's June 1904 and Lady Marjorie is sitting for her portrait by Guthrie Scone, a Scottish aristocrat turned avant-garde painter. The new parlour maid Clemence, now called Sarah by everyone for convenience, goes to Scone's studio with some of her Ladyship's dresses. A relationship begins which could end in a major society scandal.

Episode 3 - Board Wages

It is August 1904. The Bellamys and their senior servants are away on their summer holidays. The younger servants, left behind to clean the house on reduced pay, indulge in a wild evening of drinking and dressing-up.

Episode 4 - The Path of Duty

It is May 1905. Elizabeth Bellamy, home from abroad and about to make her society debut, shocks her family and the servants by refusing to conform to custom. At the first grand ball she creates a scandal.

Episode 5 - A Suitable Marriage

Elizabeth decides not to marry Angus and is captivated by a German baron visiting England at Christmas.

Episode 6 - A Cry for Help

October 1906. During a week when Richard Bellamy is alone in the house working on a book, he finds the young under housemaid Mary crying as she lays the library fire. He learns of her secret trouble and unwisely promises to help, a step that could endanger his career.

Episode 7 - Magic Casements

Classic drama series. The servants' hall is buzzing with gossip after Lady Bellamy is swept off her feet by a handsome young captain from the North West Frontier Force.

Episode 8 - I Dies from Love

April 1907. Emily, the downtrodden little kichenmaid at Eaton Place, falls deeply and hopelessly in love with a young footman.

Episode 9 - Why Is Her Door Locked?

Classic drama series. On the eve of an important dinner party, Mrs Bridges the cook gets into considerable trouble with the police.

Episode 10 - Voice from the Past

Autumn of 1908. Elizabeth and James discover Sarah, the Bellamys' former under-housemaid, starving in the East End of London. Elizabeth decides to re-install the girl in the household, but once again Sarah causes trouble and turmoil, upstairs and downstairs.

Episode 11 - The Swedish Tiger

Classic drama series. The arrival at Eaton Place of James's guest, a Swedish army captain, spells romance and betrayal for parlour maid Sarah.

Episode 12 - The Key of the Door

Classic period drama. Elizabeth becomes involved with a group of Bloomsbury intellectuals, and comes under the influence of a woman of radical left-wing views who lives with a poet she is besotted with.

Episode 13 - For Love of Love

June 1909. Elizabeth is now 21 and deeply in love with the poet Lawrence Kirbridge. She is determined to lead a free, frank and modern life, but is fighting a losing battle with convention. At the same time, her brother James renews an old friendship behind the footlights. As the Edwardian era and the series draw to a close, the future of the Bellamys hangs in the balance.
