Episode 1 - The Murdoch Identity

Detective William Murdoch is running for his life from a pair of British security agents through the streets of Bristol, England. Taking refuge in a pub owned by the lovely Anna Fulford , Murdoch admits that he may indeed be the murderer the agents accuse him of being. Meanwhile, in Toronto, Inspector Thomas Brackenreid, Constable George Crabtree and Medical Examiner Dr. Julia Ogden have no idea what's become of Murdoch, missing now a week, until they find evidence that he was at the scene of an unidentified murdered man.

Episode 2 - The Great Wall

Murdoch is called in to investigate the murder of police constable Felix Cooper in Toronto's Chinatown. Findings from Ogden's post-mortem lead Murdoch and Cooper's beat partner, Constable Randall Townsend, to investigate herbalist Feng Choy who was paying bribes to Cooper. But Murdoch suspects that Choy is being set up and that somehow his teenaged granddaughter figures in the murder. Murdoch's dogged investigation into the fearful and mistrusting world of Chinese immigrants will lead him to expose the dark underbelly of police corruption and could prove to be both career and life threatening.

Episode 3 - Victor Victorian

In a Masonic Temple, Victor Bernard (Kevin Dennis) drops dead during his initiation ceremony. Witnessing the suspicious death are fellow Masons Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) and Crabtree (Jonny Harris). They have to pull rank to convince their fellow members to allow Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a catholic, and Ogden (Hélène Joy), a woman, into the temple to conduct their investigation of a closed and secretive membership which includes many of the city's movers and shakers. As the investigation proceeds, Ogden discovers that Victor Bernard harboured a stunning secret that may have been led to his murder. Murdoch ultimately discovers the identity of the killer and the tragic irony that led to Bernard's death.

Episode 4 - Rich Boy, Poor Boy

While his mother is distracted by a mugging in a downtown Toronto park, Inspector Brackenreid's (Thomas Craig) son Bobby (Gage Munroe) is kidnapped. As he investigates the case and deals with a stressed and agitated Brackenreid, Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) realizes that the kidnappers took the wrong boy their intended target was Bobby's playmate, the son of hard-nosed brewery magnate, Henry Santon (George Masswohl), a man with many enemies. Brackenreid and Murdoch both know the odds of Bobby's safe return are against them: if the kidnappers realize they've mistakenly abducted the son of a poorly-paid policeman they'll likely kill Bobby. But, as Murdoch discovers, there is more at stake to the kidnappers than money.

Episode 5 - Me, Myself and Murdoch

A farmer is brutally ax murdered and his daughter, Charlotte (Anastasia Phillips), admits to the crime. Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) doesn't think it's so neat and tidy however and begins to realize that there is something very strange about the usually docile and considerate Charlotte. When Murdoch interviews Charlotte's mother and brother he realizes he needs an expert in the fledgling field of psychology to get through to the increasingly unpredictable Charlotte. Murdoch brings in the well-known ?alienist? Dr. Roberts (Paul Amos) to help him determine what is happening to Charlotte. It's only then that Murdoch uncovers the horrifying and grisly family secrets that lie at the root of her problems.

Episode 6 - This One Goes to Eleven

Investigating the murder of a security guard and robbery of a priceless Rembrandt draws Murdoch into the vibrant world of power couple James and Sally Pendrick. James shares Murdoch's love of science and engineering and seems either oblivious to or unconcerned by the fact that the free-spirited and beautiful Sally has eyes for Murdoch. As the owner of the stolen Rembrandt, Sally willingly guides Murdoch through the heady world of art theft and fraud. As Murdoch investigates he suspects that the theft and murder were the work of someone inside Sally's bohemian circle of artists and art experts. He gets his man, but is nearly killed by the thief/murderer. Fortunately James Pendrick shows up in time and kills Murdoch's would be assailant... leaving Murdoch to wonder just how fortuitous James' timing is. One thing is sure, Murdoch and the Pendricks will cross paths again.

Episode 7 - Blood and Circuses

The circus is in town and, as is often the case, chaos isn't too far behind Barnett's Royal Travelling Circus. But this time the chaos leads to tragedy when a tiger eats its trainer, the beautiful Kitty Walker. Suspecting this is more than a tragic accident, Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) hauls the whole colourful lot into the precinct: including the arrogant Leoline (Michael Boisvert) the lion-faced man, the slick and handsome Jake the Magician (Evan Williams), the gorgeous but scarred Ivy (Ashley Leggat), various other freaks and frauds and Athena, a spider monkey with a secret who wins over the usually hard-nosed Brackenreid (Thomas Craig). When Ogden (Hélène Joy) confirms his suspicion that Kitty's death was no accident, Murdoch zeroes in on an apparent love triangle amongst the various performers and learns that there are big differences between the freaks and the frauds.

Episode 8 - Future Imperfect

At Sally Pendrick's (Kate Greenhouse) invitation, Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) and Dr. Ogden (Hélène Joy) find themselves at a meeting of the Toronto Eugenics Society, a group of the city's scientific intelligentia - led by James Pendrick (Peter Stebbings) - who dream of a creating a superior breed of human. The guest speaker is none other than the great science fiction writer, HG Wells (Peter Mikhail). On his arm is Ruby Ogden (Sarah Gadon), Julia's younger sister. Julia's surprise and Wells' speech are put on hold with the horrifying discovery of severed limb. Murdoch's investigation identifies the deceased as Linus Malling, an ardent Eugenics supporter. While the Ogden sisters clash over Ruby's close association with the married Wells, Julia must contend with Wells' bold advances. Meanwhile, Murdoch suspects that Linus Malling's mysterious rejection of Eugenics may have led James Pendrick to murder him.

Episode 9 - Love and Human Remains

Workers building an abutment for a bridge across the Don River make a grusesome discovery: the almost perfectly preserved bodies of a man and a woman. Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) and Ogden (Hélène Joy) determine that the couple was poisoned, but when a third body is discovered, that of a baby, Murdoch has to re-evaluate the nature of the crime. Only when Ogden does some tests does the truth emerge; the bodies have been preserved by the acidic, anaerobic swamps that bordered the old Don River. But how long? Years? Decades? The potential suspects may be long dead but it turns a handful are still alive. Who among them is responsible for three deaths that occurred nearly 65 years ago?

Episode 10 - The Curse of Beaton Manor

On a dark and stormy night, stately Beaton Manor becomes a crime scene, but is the killer of this world? Chauncey Beaton (Matt Bois) has fallen to his death. Was it suicide or murder? Or was it, as the Manor staff believes, the Curse of Beaton Manor; one steeped in Haitian mysticism, voodoo, zombies and ghosts? Murdoch's (Yannick Bisson) investigation is complicated by persistent claims that the ghost of Timothy Beaton (Michael Xavier), who committed suicide the previous year, haunts the mansion. Timothy was of mixed blood; the product of an affair between the Beaton patriarch and a Haitian employee. His brothers never fully accepted him. Did Timothy's ghost push Chauncey out of that window in revenge? Murdoch looks into the Beaton family background and discovers a trail that has nothing to do with ghosts and much more to do with greed and a surprising conspiracy.

Episode 11 - Hangman

Convicted of murdering a Judge, Cecil Fox (Hardee T. Lineham) hangs for his crime at Toronto's infamous Don Jail. When the hanging goes awry, Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) must investigate Inspector Brackenreid's (Thomas Craig) close friend, Theodore Pleasant (Peter Donaldson), the Hangman. Brackenreid rejects Murdoch's assertion that the troubled Pleasant had anything to do with the botched hanging, until Murdoch uncovers evidence that proves otherwise. Even more troubling, damning fingermark evidence surfaces that implicates Pleasant in the murder that Cecil Fox hanged for. With the powerful Crown Attorney Hershey Dillard (Eric Peterson) pressuring Murdoch to make an arrest, Murdoch faces the prospect of sending the Inspector's close friend to the gallows, until Murdoch uncovers the true identity of a key witness against Fox, and an unlikely suspect in the murder of the Judge.

Episode 12 - In the Altogether

Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) is drawn into the world of Victorian erotica when he investigates the murder of a young woman who'd been posing for naughty photographs. The photographer, Marcus Evans (Ennis Esmer), is a prime suspect, but when Murdoch discovers the woman was involved in the blackmail of prominent Toronto men with another photographer, Colin McTavish, Murdoch has to admit that any one of her blackmail victims could be her killer. Then Murdoch learns that one of McTavish's erotic models was none other than Sally Pendrick, the vivacious wife of Murdoch's nemesis, the industrialist James Pendrick. Did Pendrick kill McTavish? Murdoch arrests Pendrick for McTavish's murder and for an attempt on Sally's life. Pendrick swears he's innocent, a claim Murdoch dismisses outright; a decision he'll come to regret.

Episode 13 - The Tesla Effect

Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) investigates a bizarre death; the body of a man, Morris Garbut (Christopher Stanton), appears to have been 'cooked' from the inside out. The brilliant inventor and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (Dmitry Chepovetsky) arrives on scene. With Tesla's help, Murdoch concludes that Garbut was the victim of a sinister new type of weapon based on Tesla's theories; a micro-wave death ray. Murdoch is convinced that James Pendrick (Peter Stebbings) is involved, despite the fact that he is in jail and set to hang for murder, but then a stunning series of events reveals the real mastermind behind the weapon, the Rembrandt theft, and the murder of the photographer, McTavish. A final confrontation sets off the death ray once again, but this time Murdoch is ready. Meanwhile, Dr. Ogden (Hélène Joy) accepts an offer of employment in Buffalo, New York and reveals a heartbreaking secret.
