Season 1 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - He Came!

After discovering a man living in a tent on their grounds, Alison and Mike - with the ghosts' help - learn that they have more to offer this Christmas than they realised.

Episode 1 - Who Do You Think You Are?

Alison and Mike, a cash-strapped young couple struggling to buy their first home, think their prayers are answered when a distant relative bequeaths them a sprawling country estate. The catch? The old house is haunted by the ghosts of its former inhabitants. The restless spirits, horrified that the new owners plan to turn the peaceful pile into a bustling hotel, make plans to oust the troublesome newcomers. But their bungled efforts have unintended consequences.

Episode 1 - The Ghost of Christmas

It's Christmas at Button House, and Mike is determined to make it perfect for his family. Alison is also determined to deliver the best Christmas ever for the living and the dead, although the latter aren't filled with festive cheer. Christmas just isn't that much fun when you're deceased. But when Julian is confronted with past wrongs, he has a revelation that could help the ghosts rediscover the real message of Christmas.

Episode 1 - It's Behind You

It's Christmas at Button House and Mike and Alison are heading to Mike's parents to celebrate with family. As Mike piles up the Tupperware with what he insists are only side dishes (despite one clearly being an entire turkey), Kitty expresses her disappointment at not spending Christmas day with Alison. Alison promises that they'll be back by the evening and what's more, reveals to the ghosts that there is a Christmas surprise for each of them in the Library. She gives them strict instructions not to 'open' their gifts until Christmas day, which leaves Julian struggling with temptation. The ghosts are touched by Alison's thoughtful generosity and are inspired to give her a special Christmas present to remember - but with Alison due back in a matter of hours, can they pull off their ambitious idea in time? Mike's loaded Tupperware comes in handy when their journey hits a bump in the road, forcing them to reassess their Christmas day plans. Kitty gets her moment in the spotlight and a much-needed pep talk from a surprising source.

Episode 2 - Gorilla War

Alison finds herself hounded by the ghosts, who now realize she can both see and hear them, and tries to ignore their existence - a tactic which only exacerbates the problem when the Captain puts the ghosts onto a war footing. Meanwhile, Mike's attempts to turn the house into a home leads to a DIY disaster, saddling Lady Button with an ill-suited roommate, and Julian learns about his questionable legacy when the spooks discover the internet.

Episode 3 - Happy Death Day

It's Pat's 'death day' and he prepares himself for his family's annual pilgrimage to the site of his demise. But, realising that Alison is a conduit between the dead and the living, he begs her to pass on a message from the other side - a plan complicated when Pat realises a shocking truth about his marriage. Meanwhile, Mike struggles to come to terms with his bathroom-based paranoia and Kitty tries to find out where babies come from.

Episode 4 - Free Pass

Fortune smiles on Mike and Alison when a TV company comes calling, looking for an old house in which to film a period drama. But to get the money in the bank, Alison must ensure the shoot goes without a hitch despite the horde of curious ghosts, the house's crumbling floorboards and her crippling crush on the show's lead actor. Meanwhile, Thomas and Lady Button learn the meaning of a free pass, and Julian tries his luck at betting on horse racing.

Episode 5 - Moonah Ston

Learning that their posh neighbors the Beg-Chetwyndes have an ancient claim over their land, Mike and Alison throw an upmarket dinner party to help resolve a thorny issue. But with the ghosts her only guide to high-class decorum, the evening starts badly and only gets worse - thanks to Mary's woeful catering, Mike's clueless deal-making and Robin's raucous celebration of the lunar eclipse. Elsewhere, the spooks become obsessed with a TV sitcom.

Episode 6 - Getting Out

Crumbling country mansion Button House is home to restless spirits who've died there over the centuries. Each a product of their time, they're thrown together for eternity, resigned to squabble over mundane daily gripes. But their lives - or rather afterlives - are thrown into turmoil when young urban couple Alison and Mike unexpectedly inherit the peaceful derelict house and plan to turn it into a bustling hotel. As the ghosts attempt to oust the newcomers, and Alison and Mike discover the true scale of the project they've taken on, fate conspires to trap both sides in an impossible houseshare.
